I
was born and brought up in the north of England but now live in
rural Warwickshire. I graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Fine
Art. My work reflects what I see around me, a beautiful view,
the shapes and colours of fields and even the patterns in a stone
wall. I use these observations as a jumping off point or trigger
for my imagination to develop paintings which represent nature
rather than copy it.
I work mostly in oils or acrylics, often starting by taking photographs.
I also look at maps and aerial views of the earth, often working
on the computer to magnify and distort images to pare them down
to just a mass of colour or a few simple lines. I then develop
the work on canvas. I work in an intuitive way, building up layers
of colour and texture, and using thin glazes to produce depth
and atmosphere. My intention is to produce paintings which I hope
engage the viewer so that they are drawn in to look further, and
question.
